Bio:
Tri-Coastal critical theorist and philosopher born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1962. Married (2013) to Mandy Newham-Cobb, MFA. Mandy is a freelance artist and illustrator. Mark attended public high school(graduated 1980) and participated in debate, extemporaneous speaking, football, and tennis. Enrolled at Young Harris College in the fall of 1980 on a partial tennis scholarship. Played (1980-1982) for Coach Bob Nichols and Coach Bill Champion. Team captain 1981-82 and YHC Most Valuable Player in 1982 State Tournament. Mark's study of philosophy began in Athens, Georgia at UGA where he earned an AB (1985 - double major in Philosophy and Political Science) and an MA in Philosophy (1988). John Granrose was Mark's master's thesis advisor. While enrolled at Georgia as an undergraduate, Mark also attended Humboldt State University (Arcata, California)on the National Student Exchange. Earned doctorate in the History of Consciousness at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Angela Davis was Mark's dissertation advisor. Co-editor (with John Abromeit) and contributor to Herbert Marcuse: A Critical Reader (Routledge,2004). Has taught at: University of Georgia (Instructor), University of California (Philosophy Teaching Fellow/Associate), Warren Wilson College (Visiting Professor of Philosophy 2005-2008), Pensacola Junior College/Pensacola State College (Professor of Philosophy, 2000-2006; Associate Professor, 1995-2000; Assistant Professor, 1992-1995; and Instructor 1989-1992), and BCCC (since 2009). Interests include: reading, writing, art, film, sports, and travel.
