Bio:
Susan Hagen was born in Champaign, IL, grew up in Stevens Point, WI, and has lived in Philadelphia, PA for over 30 years. She received an MFA in sculpture from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA in sculpture from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Ms. Hagen‰Ûªs artwork is represented by the Schmidt Dean Gallery in Philadelphia, and has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the U.S. such as the World Tattoo Gallery, Aron Packer Gallery, and SOFA in Chicago; del Mano Gallery in Los Angeles; the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art; Todd Capp Gallery in New York City, and Miami Basel. Public collections include the Center for Art in Wood in Philadelphia and the Tweed Museum in Duluth, MN. Ms. Hagen has been awarded fellowships and artist‰Ûªs residencies from the McColl Center for the Arts in Charlotte, NC and the Ragdale Foundation, Chicago, IL, as well as artist‰Ûªs grants from the George Sugarman Foundation, the Leeway Foundation, and the Independence Fellowships in the Arts. In 2015 she received a fellowship and residency at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ballycastle, County Mayo, Ireland, and she will return for another residency in July of 2017. She has taught wood sculpture workshops at Anderson Ranch and Penland School of Crafts, and has written hundreds of articles about art for publications and blogs, including the Philadelphia City Paper, Woodwork magazine, and the Artblog.
